Antibacterial Activity of the Crude Extract of a Gastropod Lambis lambis from the Tuticorin Coast, India

چکیده
The present study has been carried out to investigate the antibacterial activity of molluscan gastropod species Lambis lambis and to find out the possible bioactive compounds present in the body tissue extract of the experimental animal. The antibacterial activity of extracts of body tissue of L.lambis against 8 bacterial pathogens viz., Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Shigella flexneri, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio cholera were carried out. Of all the fractionss tested Fraction 4 (Methanolic extract) showed the maximum activity, this potent fraction was further characterized through IR spectrum and the result of the present study showed the presence of aliphatic, acidic, hydroxyl and disulfide groups which could be responsible for the antibacterial activity.

Antimicrobial Activity of Pteria Penguin against Human Pathogens from the Southeast Coast of India
The penguin wing oyster Pteria penguin whole body extract was obtained with different solvents. The whole body extracts were assayed for antibacterial activity using agar well diffusion technique against human pathogens. The extracts derived from acetone and chloroform exhibited broad antibacterial activity. Highest activity was exhibited against Klebsiella pneumoniae (6 mm) and Staphylococcus ...

Ascidians are involved with rich source of bioactive agents which could be used for novel antimicrobial drugs. Ascidians are belongs to phylum chordate and class Ascidiacea. In present study two ascidians P. madrasensis and P. nigra were collected from Tuticorin, Southeast coast of India. The antibacterial compounds were screened to evaluate antibacterial activity in and different solvent like ...
متن کاملCytotoxicity of the crude extracts of Marine ascidians (Tunicata: Ascidiacea) from Tuticorin, Southeast coast of India
Marine organisms such as ascidians, sponges and soft corals, containing symbiotic microorganisms are a rich source of bioactive compounds. This study examined the cytotoxic potential of two ascidians found in the coastal waters of Tuticorin. The ascidians samples Didemnum psammatode and Phallusia arabica were extracted in methanol and ethanol. The crude extracts were tested for cytotoxicity usi...
متن کاملA molecular phylogenetic analysis of strombid gastropod morphological diversity.
The shells of strombid gastropods show a wide variety of forms, ranging from small and fusiform to large and elaborately ornamented with a strongly flared outer lip. Here, we present the first species-level molecular phylogeny for strombids and use the resulting phylogenetic framework to explore relationships between species richness and morphological diversity. We use portions of one nuclear (...
متن کاملElectrophoretic Pattern and Antibacterial Activity of Proteins from Vicia Faba Seed Extract
ABSTRACT Background Antibiotic resistance makes antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) agents an alternative for treatment of pathogenic diseases. They are isolated from various animals invertebrates, vertebrates and plants. The present study shows the electrophoretic pattern of protein and peptides from Vicia Faba seed and reports our first attempt to study the antibacterial activity of Vicia faba...
